Happy Mother's Day
Hope all of you with XX chromosomes and mitochondrial DNA you've passed on had a wonderful day today.
I had to settle for sending my own mother a basket of flowers, given the geographic distance, but when I called she told me it was her best Mother's Day gift ever. She has Alzheimer's Disease, which is still in the early stages, so the Mother's Days like these are likely very finite in the future.
Still and all, I thank God for them, and those we've had in the past. You only have one mother, you know, and the woman who raised you is it, even in those cases where it's not her particular mitochondrial DNA you carry.
